Best 2014 Emmy Jewelry
Yes, the Emmy red carpet was a bit of a snooze this year. The jewelry, on the whole was restrained. The dresses did a lot of the work: sparkling neckline adornment, metallic shine and lots of red encouraged a lot of actresses to pull back on the jewelry. The prevailing look went back a few years: hair down hiding big earrings and lots of bracelets. The difference? This year some of the earrings were climbers and mis-matched pairs.
That said, thankfully, not everyone got the boring-jewelry memo. Here are my picks for the best jewelry of the 2014 Emmy Awards.
Christina Hendricks often disappoints at award shows. But this year she unleashed her inner diva and rocked a wrapped red Marchesa with great yellow gold Bollywood inspired jewelry by Neil Lane. Gold chandelier earrings, armfuls of bracelets and a large garnet cocktail ring. She looked absolutely original and absolutely stunning. This placement is thanks to LoveGold, the World Gold Council social media juggernaut to promote the precious metal among designers, celebrities, and influencers.
Sofia always brings the jewelry. And though I was afraid she would decide to wear something modest from her new jewelry collection for Kay’s Jewelers, whew. She decided instead on some dramatic diamond earrings, a tassel bracelet and emerald and diamond rings by Lorraine Schwartz. Stunning.
Lorraine Schwartz to the rescue again. After Heidi posted her visit to Lorraine’s office on Instagram, we know she would be bringing the bling. The earrings. The pinky ring. The emerald bracelet. The only flaw in this look was that the earrings were largely hidden by Heidi’s hair. One undo away from perfection!
The whole cast of Orange is the New Black killed it last night. Laverne Cox has amazing retro diamond brooches and earrings by Fred Leighton. But Taylor Schilling takes the prize for her cool mis-matched earrings and amazing pink diamond ring, all by Forevermark. Love it.
Julia looked lovely in a short ball gown silhouette. Her jewelry was sophisticated and unexpected: earrings by Wilfredo Rosato and a large moonstone ring by Irene Neuwirth that glowed. The jewelry complemented the woman, which in real life, is what always works. Bonus points for a dress that was embroidered with beads that looked like pearls.
