Best Jewelry of the 2014 SAG Awards

I wasn’t planning on a blog post for the 2014 SAG Awards. Not that I don’t enjoy a bejeweled red carpet, but with so much restraint and classicism at the 2014 Golden Globes, I didn’t anticipate I’d have much to say about the jewelry on the generally less formal red carpet at the SAG Awards. Boy was I wrong. It was the earrings: long, colorful, modern and oh-so-covetable, those earrings are impossible to resist. The photos (as well as the jaw-dropping turquoise Gucci gown Lupita Nyong’o wore) put the SAG Awards on the fashion map.

Resistance is futile: here are the gorgeous earrings of the 2014 SAG Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence wears Jennifer Meyer earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsJennifer Lawrence in Jennifer Meyer

These are the best of the night. Probably amethyst, definitely sexy, and very cool with pyramid-cut and pear-shape gems surrounded by a delicate pave halo. Jennifer Meyer is the surprise of the awards season so far, with several high-profile placements that are moving her into the red-carpet big leagues.

Anna Gunn wears Irene Neuwirth earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsAnna Gunn in Irene Neuwirth

Anna clearly loved these earrings: showing them off on Instagram and to the photographers on the red carpet. As well she should: they are the very flattering, glamorous and the perfect complement to her midnight blue gown. Let’s hope we see a lot of Irene Neuwirth at the Oscars. (Yes, I say that every year but it bears repeating don’t you think?)

Jane Krakowski wears Vhernier earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsJane Krakowski in Vhernier

This caught me by surprise. The sophisticated Vhernier collection isn’t widely available in the United States. Modern, sleek and sexy, these earrings demonstrate why jewelry connoisseurs wish it was! Just the perfect amount of green for Jane’s dress too.

Julia Roberts wears Wilfredo Rosado earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsJulia Roberts in Wilfredo Rosado

Julia doesn’t get much right on the red carpet. Example: she wore a pink jumpsuit to the SAG Awards. But these earrings are fantastic on her: modern, graphic, sparkling and flattering. If you ever feel compelled to wear a pink jumpsuit, make sure your earrings are as nice as these drops.

Amy Adams wears Cartier earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsAmy Adams in Cartier

After going seventies sexy for the Golden Globes, Adams embraced old Hollywood glamour at the SAG Awards. I might have preferred something more modern with the graphic strength of this dress (Irene Neuwirth opals or chrysoprase would have been truly perfect) but these Cartier earrings are lovely and the color is beautiful with her hair and the cobalt dress.

Elisabeth Rohm wears Martin Katz earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsElisabeth Rohm in Martin Katz

These rose cut earrings, probably fancy diamonds, are such a cool color. They really flatter her and work well with the dress. I think I could wear these almost every day.

Gretchen Moll wears Kwiat earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsGretchen Moll in Kwiat

Now those are briolettes! A nice choice with a neutral dress, in a cosmetic color that warms her face. Are they morganite? Kunzite? Rose Quartz? No matter what the gem, they are very pretty.

Nancy O'Dell wears XIVKarats earrings to the 2014 SAG AwardsNancy O’Dell in XIV Karats

This is another way to choose jewelry to go with a neutral gown, the opposite of Gretchen and Elisabeth complementary tones. Nancy O’Dell paired a neutral gown with vivid emeralds. There is something fresh and modern about the pairing, even if the earrings are pretty traditional in style desire the shoulder-grazing length.
